Hey guys, I completed a fun makeover this week-end...I accessorized our built-Ins for a total bookcase refresh!
I have been wanting to update the accessories in our built-ins for a while now. But I just needed a good starting point. Well see that tobacco colored dough bowl in the upper right? Yup, that old piece came from my sweet Grandma's farm in KY and was my simple inspiration piece for the new design. Here are the shelves before...
Now this is an older picture and we've since painted our walls a cool gray. But I wanted this bookcase to have a much lighter look and feel. So I pulled everything down, spray painted a few accessories gold and found some great baskets and frames from Target. I also removed all the dark brown and black accessories.
Here's the After...
This is key to the new look right here. I removed a shelf, making an area for larger accessories like this vase and frame. This initial used to be black. I spray painted it a soft green to go with the blue/green color scheme of the room. The books add a fresh pop of color, and are a few of my favorite reads.
This is my ampersand from Restoration Hardware. It's oil rubbed bronze, but was looking very dark. So I spray painted just the front gold. And check out my clam shell. Yup, I spray painted that too...just the top!
They sell these gold clam shells at Z Gallerie for $89.95. I found mine on the beach on a family vacay! Free home accessories...I love that!
Okay guys, this was such a fun makeover! And my favorite part is that it all tells the story of our family. We've got family photos, vacation souvenirs, a family antique, and our last name initial. Our family bible is even tucked in with the books.
Have to say...I love decorating. But when the accessories have special meaning, there is nothing better!
Looks awesome! I could style shelves all day (and have!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth...me too :)
DeleteLove it Jane, the height of the vase and the framed photo truly made the makeover more interesting!
