Boys bedroom makeover...Ikea Hemnes Dresser!

Okay so kid one's bedroom needs a makeover - STAT!  The other day while putting clothes away it dawned on me...our little man still has his dresser from his first "big boy room" like 10 years ago.  And since he's almost 13, it's definitely time for a stylish tween bedroom, that can still grow with him into his teenage years.
So I immediately thought of Ikea and their Hemnes furniture collection.  I've always loved it's clean lines and at just $299 for the 8 drawer model - how unbelievably affordable it is.
Here's the old dresser below to the right.  Off to the Restore it went for hopefully another sweet little boy to use.   Remember that with all Ikea furniture...you have to haul it home in a box and assemble the furniture yourself.  This obviously is why their prices are so insanely low.  So we put kid one to work!  Okay Dad helped too ;)

Here's the new dresser...

Ahhh, much better!  Now it's starting to look like a teenager lives here!  This room is far from finished though...we still need to hang a mirror and curtains.  I chipped a photo below and now I've got a fun color scheme to work with.  Love Chip It!!  If you haven't tried Chip It...go here.

 Hope to get this room finished before Summer's end. Of course I'll keep you posted.

  1. Hi Jane,

    Great dresser and perfect color! I'm actually considering getting 2 of those for our bedroom. I think they would look good lined up together.

    And I have not used Chip It but I just took some pictures on our vacation for that purpose!

  2. You're right...the dresser makes the room feel much more like it's for a teenage boy. It's such an awesome dresser.

  3. It really is a great dresser Judy. I've seen this piece look great in adult bedrooms...even nurseries. It comes in brown (shown) blue, and white. The white is adorable in a nursery or girls bedroom!

  5. I love the lines of the dresser as well. I chose almost the same color scheme for my little guy's room. I can't wait to see your finished room!

  6. I've been considering a few items from the Hemnes collection for my 6 yr olds room, but am a bit worried it will dent up easily because its made with pine and pine is such a soft wood. My son can be a bit rough with things. It seams like such a value though. Please keep us posted on how this dresser wears.

  7. Thanks for commenting {L}

    Yes quality IS an issue with all Ikea furniture. Our son however spends very little time in his room, other than sleeping and reading. He's also past that young, rough & tumble age...where they almost ruin everything...lol!!
    So based on this we decided to go with the Ikea dresser and save! Having said all that I will certainly keep you posted with how this piece hold up.

  8. I have this dresser! But they didn't have the darker color when we bought it so it's in the antique color. Wish I could swap it for the dark. I love the design and usability of the dresser though. We now have 3 different dressers from the Hemmes line in our house too :-)
