Entryways can quickly get neglected...I know ours did this year! I don't have a "before" picture but our planter's and lights were faded from the sun and elements. So I set out to spruce things up around here with simple spray paint, and ferns!
This light below was gray and faded. I spruced it up with Rustoleum's hammered metal spray paint.
I love flanking entryways with ferns! I purchased these plant stands from The Home Depot for under $20 and are the perfect solution for giving simple ferns and other potted plants more height and presence. And these plant stands are a great inexpensive alternative to taller urns which can easily start at $75 and up!
I also used ferns this year on our deck and screened porch area. I just love these charming, low maintenance and shade loving plants! And at $12 each, they offer a big focal point for not a lot of money.
Your entryway looks so inviting..simply elegant and I love it. Never thought about using ferns. Great idea!

Beautiful, Jane! I love your screened porch. We just took down our front door lights to repaint. We get full sun and they took a real beating. The ferns look great, but I think they'd dry out in a matter of hours flanking my front door! So I'll enjoy yours.
ReplyDeleteGreat deck! Love the entry, looks so inviting.

Looks great! I love the ferns, so simple and easy!
ReplyDeleteDidn't know ferns liked shade. My porch is completely shady so maybe they would work there :)
ReplyDeleteJane they are beautiful and make the entry pop against those black doors! I love your screened porch & deck too. SO pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love the ferns and those plant stands are awesome!
ReplyDeletelooks beautiful!!! I kill everything! ha!
ReplyDeleteYour entry way is gorgeous! I have those plant stands but didn't use now I am inspired to copy yours. Thanks for that. Happy Monday!

I love ferns...they are so pretty! You did a great job sprucing up.
ReplyDeleteI hate to ask a "dumb" question here on my very first post... but did you remove the door to spray paint it? It looks great. I have a metal backdoor but we always used a brush.
ReplyDeleteThanks!

Beautiful sprucing up! I love your new blog header/design.
ReplyDeleteUsing ferns is a wonderful way to transform an area inexpensively. Their lush foliage is so inviting.
ReplyDeleteThe Yankee found a pair of porch lights at a thrift store for six dollars. With a coat of Rust-Oleum, they look brand new. They now reside next to our front door.

Your entry ways are beautiful. I love ferns too, but buy Kimberly Queens. They don't mind some sun as much as the regular ferns. Have you ever tried them?

Great job Jane!!
ReplyDeleteYour ferns are gorgeous and I love the plant stands! Such a lovely entrance to your home.
ReplyDeleteJane, I had my ferns outside my door earlier in the season, but was getting too much sun. They are now thriving in the shade of my back patio. I agree with another poster that the Kimberly ferns do much better in the sun. And I need all the help I can get using the right plant, because this girl's thumb is brown!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI had planned to use oil rubbed bronze on my fixtures, but I might have to check out this hammered look. Thanks for the tip.
:-) Sue
Love the ferns! I need some!
ReplyDeleteThe ferns look fantastic! Are they easy to keep alive? Did you get those at HD too?
ReplyDeleteI am also a fern freak! I'd have every kind in extra large size if I could! Love your ferns in urns, I am so jealous. You always have such great posts.
ReplyDeleteLove the ferns! I seem to pick a few more up any time I apss them in the store. Your entryways look fabulous! Thanks so much for joining the Sunday Showcase! I greatly appreciate it. Hope you have a wonderful week. ~ Stephanie Lynn
