Hey guys, we had our dining room painted back in August and I'm just now getting to the full reveal! Now remember this makeover included two new head chairs, a chic new chandy, and new paint on the walls.
If you'll remember this room before was painted in a Benjamin Moore - Pottery Barn color called "merlot". And at the time, it was the bomb ;) But 10 years later...yeah not so much! So I lightened up this space and went straight from a warm color to a cool color, SW -Magnetic Grey to be exact. When I look at the before and After, I'm simply amazed at how different the space looks and feels now!
Before...
After...
Ahhh, what a difference! We used one coat of tinted primer and two coats of the Magnetic Gray. I really love the color. It's a blue/grey but with hints of green too. During the day it reads more blue. But at night I see more of a pale aqua color.
Oh and check out our rug from Medallion Rugs! We are so happy with this 100% authentic Persian wool rug. It will last a lifetime. Seriously if you're even thinking about buying a new rug, check out Medallion Rugs. They have a huge selection and their rugs are imported from all over the world!

Wow, doesn't the room look ten times bigger! And it feels so light n' airy now. That my friends is what I love about cool colors, they will make your rooms feel larger and have a more modern look as well!

I am obsessed with the new color! My dining room is still a red very similar to your "before" and I have been talking about lightening it up in there forever! Now that I see yours, I just have to do something with mine! Your room is gorgeous and I love the rug too!

Thank you Shelley, if you're thinking about painting over that red, I say go for it!! The lighter look is so much nicer. Not only in the way it looks but feels. Now the dining room feels like part of the house. Whereas before it was this dark room off in the corner if that makes sense!
DeleteLove how bright and cheerful it is with the new color. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marty, we really love it too!
DeleteLove the new color! You did an amazing job and beautiful transformation. We just did our kitchen in SW March Wind (A gray too).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hope your loving your new gray kitchen!!
ReplyDeleteJane it is truly amazing the difference paint color makes to a room isn't it? So fun to see the before and afters together. I had a red dining room once too, and then a red office, red used to be my signature color and now I don't have any of it in my house! Your new grayish-bluey-greeny-tealy color is so so so pretty and refreshing. It looks great with the wood tones of your furniture!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, just saw this! It really is amazing the way a room feels with warm colors versus cool colors. Or vice versa. Cool colors just feel so light and airy. Think that's why I love them!
DeleteBeautiful! What a dramatic difference! Thanks for sharing with us at Best of the Nest!
