Ahhh...I LOVE ME SOME CHALKBOARD PAINT!
I was so excited when I found this platter at a discount store for just $6.99. I knew exactly what I'd do. A little tape, a little chalkboard paint...and I've got an accessory for my kitchen that's a whole lotta CUTE!
...
...
First things first, I taped my design. This shape simply mimics the shape of the platter.
Next I applied one coat of primer, cuz the chalkboard paint won't stick unless you prime the area first.
To a child, chalkboard paint is like magic! My kids were mesmerized as I painted this plate. Once it dried, they couldn't wait to doodle!
In my experience, pulling the tape off while the paint is wet helps give you clean, sharp lines. Yup, I'm a clean line girl!
Here it is finished. Funny, my daughter saw the menu and said "Mom, burgers and fries sound great tonight!". Ahhh, a crafty project that's both cute and will get your kids to eat more...it doesn't get any better than that!
...
...
Got chalkboard paint? Then make a menu board for your kitchen.
It's just fun!
It's just fun!
VERY good idea!
ReplyDeleteI've done this with silver trays but never thought to do it with porcelain! I will keep my eye out now at GS!!!

What a pretty platter, Jane! I did not know that about using primer first ~ thanks for mentioning that tip!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane-
ReplyDeleteI have seen many projects using chalkboard paint, but I think this is my fav, as I am a white plate kind of girl. Very cute that your daughter noticed and made a comment, that alone was worth all your efforts. It looks fabulous on your kitchen counter with your new black cabinets.
My best- Diane
Oh...that is super cute. Love it on the kitchen counter. It is fun to paint things with chalkboard paint. I need to find myself a big platter to paint. Thanks for the inspiration.

Love your new creation! Thanks for linking to 2nd Time Around!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute idea. If I had room in my kitchen for it I would make it. Hubby is always asking me what is for dinner after I had already told him a bunch of times.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I made chalkboard signs for my wedding using refurbished frames from thrift stores & garage sales...I am now addicted to chalkboard-painting everything I can get my hands on. =) This is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI am so going to try making something with chalkboard paint soon. I got off the idea a bit when my sister-in law did a chalkboard with chalkboard paint on her girls' bedroom wall and it was very messy. I love this... even though I doubt it would keep by teen from asking what's for dinner and then being disgusted! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIf I can just figure out how to combine chalkboard paint and photos... I'll be uber excited.
