A few new finds, and decorating a media - bonus room...

Hey guys, today I thought I'd share a few new finds we recently scored from the one and only...Home Goods!  We needed a little more color in the family room, and an extra seat for our media/family room upstairs.  So Home Goods to the rescue, literally.  One shopping trip with my favorite shopping buddy...kid 2, and done!

Here's our new lamp for the family room.  I really like how the cool teal blue balances with our warm tan walls.  Take note, this table houses our cable box, and our flat screen TV is above the fireplace and to the left of this picture.  Normally I wouldn't place a small table right in front of the window, but for functionality purposes...we had to.  Anyway I'm diggin' the lamp for just $49.99.

So here's our media/bonus room that I've decorated to function well for both kids and adults!  No way was I going to spend a ton of money in this room, when most of the time my kiddos are in here playing video games, watching TV or just hanging out with their friends.  So keep in mind this was all put together on one serious budget!

The swivel chair I scooped up over the week-end from Home Goods for just $299...gotta love that!  And yes it's white, but this bonded leather will easily wipe clean for years to come.  I did however point out to my 13 year old baseball playing son that if he sits in this chair while wearing a dirty baseball uniform...no more video games for a very long time.  He got the point :)

Okay down the road for this room my plans are to remove the ceiling fan and add a simple/chic flush mount ceiling light.  Then switch out the mirror with simple black and white framed art.  So what do you guys think?  I'd love to hear your thoughts...

  1. Looks great. I love the shape and color of the lamp, and I think the armoire would look great in a gray. I am always so impressed with the creativity and vision you have. Rhonda

  2. I recently went on a Home Goods shopping spree...never fail to find something there and at such great prices! Love that swivel chair. With a 14 yo son, I totally get the video game bribery :)

  3. Great lamp, that's exactly what I hoped to find @ my Home Goods recently, but didn't ... its OK though, I did score a pair of lamps that work well. The armoire would definitely look sleek and lovely in gray but since this is primarily a kids hangout I could also see it in a pop of color {soft teal?} tying in with {the not yet purchased} pillows ... once painted, you can always repaint gray or other if the room's function changes or kids grow up.

  5. The lamp definitely adds to the room. I think a large light fixture would add to the room, as well. I like the armoire as is; if you paint it gray I think it may look just the same, it will depend on what value gray you pick. It's a nice room.

  7. Your bonus room looks wonderful and I love your new lamp. I love the wood of the armoire, but I still love dark wood. If you paint it do it a different color than grey cause with the couch it would be too much grey.
