Guest Blogger...33 Shades of Green!

Well I'm super excited today...Alissa from 33 Shades of Green is our Guest Blogger!  I know Alissa from all the fabulous projects she's linked up to Frugalicious Friday over the last several months.  Not only are her projects stylish and functional...but she does em' on the cheap too, oh how I love that!  Okay get ready to be inspired, here's Alissa with a collection of some of her best projects...
Hi Finding Fabulous readers!  I'm Alissa from 33 Shades of Green.  First, let me say that I am just so excited to be here guest posting.  Thank you Jane for having me!  I'm an Interior Designer for an architectural firm, and design commercial interiors.  When I'm not working, you'll find me crafting, cooking, decorating, and trying out all sorts of creative projects for my house.
I thought I'd share a few of my favorite projects with you.  First up are these patio cushions I recovered for two of my outdoor chairs.  The chairs were in great shape but after three seasons outside, the cushions became very faded.  Here's what the chairs look like now:

Sewing the cushions took some time, but it was definitely worth it!

You can read my full post on recovering the patio cushions right here.
Next up is a project that cost me next to nothing to make!  I had a blank space on a wall in my home office and decided to use three frames I already had to create something fun.

I used my computer to print out the alphabet in three different fonts.

This is one of my favorite projects because it's quick, easy, and almost free!  Wouldn't this be a fun project for a child's room or a nursery?  You can read my full tutorial here.

Another inexpensive project are these decorative letters.

I used wood letters from the craft store and patterned scrapbook paper to make these letters.  I love how the look can easily be customized to any room just by using different scrapbook paper.  And, the entire project cost less than $5.00!  Full tutorial here.

I think this wrapping paper and ribbon wall rack is one of my all-time favorite projects.  I wish I had made this sooner!

All you need to create this is an open back frame and tension rods.  I have this hanging in my craft room and I love it!  Not only does it look great, but it's functional too.

I have a tutorial  for the wrapping paper and ribbon wall rack on my blog.
How about making a unique accent for your garden?  I made these pots (called hypertufa) out of concrete, perlite, and peat moss.

This project is easy but a little time consuming.  I think the end result was worth it!  You can read my tutorial here.

I hope you enjoyed these projects.  Thanks again Jane for having me over today!

You are more than welcome Alissa...words cannot express how much I {heart} your thrifty design ideas!  That quatrefoil pattern on your recovered patio cushions is to die for, and your practically free framed alphabet smart!   Oh and the wrapping paper station...sigh!!  Yup, I must have one of those in my craft closet.

Thanks again Alissa for the inspiration, and for stopping by today!

Okay guys...Frugalicious Friday is ON tomorrow and we've got a fun giveaway from, so link up those fabulous finds, crafts and Diy projects...cuz we want the scoop on how you find fabulous!  See you then.

Guest Blogger...Diane from In My Own Style!

Diane from In My Own Style is here today!

Diane simply has some fabulous projects on her blog!  To name a few...she's created inexpensive artwork, revived old furniture with paint, and even posted a tutorial on making no-sew patio cushion covers.  Yup, a gal who loves to decorate on a budget and revamp a few fabulous my book, is AMAZING!

Here's Diane with a unique place for finding one person's trash (so to speak)...that we can transform into beautiful treasures!  Take it away Diane...

Thank you so much Jane for inviting me to guest post here on Finding Fabulous. I wanted to post about finding something fabulous and have to thank Giorgina at Decor Medley for planting an idea in my head. She recently ran an interview with me on her site. One of the questions was -

For readers who may be interested in turning trash to treasure, where are some places they might go about finding such items? Beyond the obvious places like flea markets and thrift stores, what else is there that you recommend?

Well, we all know about places like Goodwill, The Salvation Army, Thrift Stores, and church basement sales to find fabulous items to re-vamp. One place I know that is not on most treasure seeker's radar is Old Folks Homes, Senior Citizen Communities. I became an insider to this "intel" when my parents and mother- in-law moved into two different retirement communities.

Senior citizen apartment complexes and retirement communities all have shops in them where the residents can sell their unwanted stuff or when someone dies(god bless) and their family doesn't want the contents of their apartment - the items go to the shop.

Not only do you find great deals, but the shops are usually staffed by the residents themselves. The volunteers who run the shops are all so pleasant and chatty and will tell you all about Helen's table or Josephine's china that is for sale. The old men sit around talking to the ladies and talk about the weather with each other. They will call you "doll" and flirt with you. It will make you smile. The community where my parents live, the shop is only open on Fridays. I found these white bowls and mugs there for $ 3.00 for the whole set.

At my mother-in-law's place - the shop is open M-F 1-4. You can look up "Retirement Communities Homes" in your Yellow Pages. Call the main number and ask if they have a thrift store or re-sale shop on the premises. I go to three different communities on a regular basis. One is in it's own building and I can drive right up and go directly in. The other two I have to go in the main entrance and be buzzed in and go through security. These urns I found at my mother-in-laws community shop. were a bit pricey at $6.oo s piece.

It is a hit or miss kind of shopping, you never know what you are going to find. On a recent visit to another community, I bought this tall glass pedstal jar. I plan to use it as a hostess gift. I will fill it with something sweet and tie a pretty ribbon around it.

I also bought this round basket, mat, and metal tray. I am going to re-vamp amodern looking table I have in my family roominto a piece more my style using them.

The shops are usually very clean and nicely organized.

Vintage jewels are always in abundance. These clip-on earrings can be used for so many things besides embellishing ears.

Embellishments for gift-wrap.

Retirement Communities - they are a place you can Find the beaten path.

Wow Diane, what a great idea for finding thrift store finds...without going to the usual Goodwill or Salvation Army.

And using vintage jewelry for gift wrap accessories and that idea!  You could even make really cool magnets and broaches too.  And since one person's trash IS another person's treasure...I know there are fabulous finds to be found in retirement communities!

Thanks so much for stopping by today...and if your looking for more fabulous design ideas and inspirations, give Diane a shout at In My Own Style!  She's got many more fun n' thrifty projects.

Well it's that time again...Frugalicious Friday is ON tomorrow!  So link up your fabulous finds, crafts and Diy projects...cuz (like always) we want to see how you find fabulous!

See you then!
